A Timeline Celebrating 100 Years of Conservation

For 100 years, Steep Rock Association has been protecting the land, water, and wildlife that make Washington, Connecticut, such a remarkable place to live. But this isn’t just our story—it’s yours.

Every acre saved, every trail restored, every child discovering nature for the first time—all of it has been rooted in your generosity, your hard work, and your belief that this land is worth protecting.

This video tells that story—one of vision, persistence, and community. From our founder Ehrick Rossiter’s first 186-acre gift in 1925 to today’s network of preserves spanning thousands of acres, every milestone has been powered by people who cared enough to act.

Because of you:
• Land once at risk is now forever protected.
• Local farms thrive and nourish our community.
• Fifty miles of trails in the preserves link forests, meadows, and rivers—open to all, protected forever.
• Local watersheds vital to Lake Waramaug and Washington’s aquifer remain clean and alive with life.

These are not accidents. They are choices—acts of love that ripple through time.

As we celebrate a century of conservation, we’re reminded that the next 100 years will depend on the same thing that got us here: a community of neighbors coming together to protect the land, care for it and for each other—and you’re an essential part of what makes that possible.

Thank you for making all of this possible.
