Annual Community Picnic and Celebration
For nearly 70 years, the Steep Rock Community Picnic has brought people together in Steep Rock Preserve. What began as a small trustee gathering has become one of Washington’s most cherished traditions—welcoming residents, hikers, donors, students, and volunteers.
This year’s picnic is extra special as we celebrate 100 years of protecting and caring for the land we love. Join us on Saturday, September 13, from 12–2 PM for carriage rides, live music, games, food, and guided hikes beginning at 10:30 AM. Come celebrate the people and landscapes that make Washington home.

100 Years of Artistic Inspiration
Opening Friday, September 5, Steep Rock Association proudly presents 100 Years of Artistic Inspiration: Steep Rock Association, 1925–2025—a juried exhibition celebrating a century of conservation and creativity. The show runs through September 28 and features artwork inspired by our preserves.
Join us for the Artists’ Reception on Saturday, September 13 (3–5 PM) to meet the artists and celebrate the deep connection between art and nature.

Family Firepit Fall Celebration
Welcome the fall equinox with us on Saturday, September 20, 4–7 PM, at our Christian Street headquarters in New Preston. Enjoy an evening of cozy fires, games, pizza, and community fun. This free, family-friendly event is open to all ages.

3 Peaks in 3 Weeks Challenge Returns!
From September 28–October 19, hikers of all ages are invited to summit the highest peaks across our preserves. Complete all three within three weeks for a chance to win prizes—while supporting Steep Rock’s trail stewardship and soaking in fall’s colors. Registration opens September 22.
