A Century of Connecting to Community
For 100 years, Steep Rock Association has worked to preserve the forests, meadows, streams, and wildlife that make Washington, CT such a remarkable place to live, work, and play. But this isn’t just our story—it’s yours.
For every acre conserved, every trail restored, and every child able to discover the joys of nature has been rooted in your generosity and belief that this land is worth protecting.
This summer, John Kozak, SRA’s Denise Trevenen Community Engagement Intern, produced a video that tells the history of Steep Rock—one of vision, persistence, and community.
From our founder Ehrick Rossiter’s initial gift of land to today’s network of preserves and easements spanning thousands of acres, every milestone has been reached because of people who cared enough to act.
Steep Rock’s success is no accident; it is rooted in acts of love that have rippled through time from so many generous people.
As we celebrate a century of conservation, we’re reminded that the next 100 years will depend on the same commitment and ethos that brought us here: a community of neighbors coming together to conserve the land, care for it, and connect with each other.
Thank you for making all this possible.

Eagle Scout Replaces Steep Rock Footbridge
Many thanks and congratulations to Eagle Scout candidate Isaac Fitch, who successfully replaced a 24-ft long bridge on the River’s Edge Loop in Steep Rock Preserve for his Eagle Scout Project.
Isaac deconstructed the former bridge and designed and installed the new one using pressure-treated white cedar for decking, posts, and bracing, and stained Douglas fir for stringers. The new bridge ensures safe passage over a brook and easy access to the Steep Rock summit.
He and his team members from Troop 65 contributed 91 hours to the project. We are incredibly grateful.
