Steep Rock Association acknowledges that all the land which we protect for the public benefit, whether by title or easement, exists on the ancestral homelands of the Weantinock and Pootatuck people and their descendants, who are now the Schaghticoke.
We recognize and respect the Indigenous peoples who provided stewardship to these ancestral lands long before the incorporation of Steep Rock, and in fact have been living and working on this land since time immemorial. With humility, reverence and appreciation, we pay our respects to the elders and pledge to steward these lands under our care for the generations to come.
