2026 Winter Speaker Series – Virtual Event via Zoom
February 19, 6-7PM – Preserving Washington’s Agricultural Heritage with Patrick Horan
Washington’s farming story stretches from early homesteaders growing row crops and tobacco, through the dairy boom of the 19th and early 20th centuries, to today’s resurgence of small and mid-sized organic farms, orchards, and pasture-based operations. Though the scale of farming has come full circle, today’s farmers face new challenges—developing markets, running CSA programs, and keeping agriculture alive in a changing landscape. This talk will trace Washington’s agricultural past and explore how the community can ensure a vibrant farming future.
About the Speaker: Patrick, along with his brother Quincy, owns and manages Waldingfield Farm, a certified organic vegetable operation in Washington, that specializes in heirloom varieties and cultivates between 25 and 30 acres of land each year. Waldingfield Farm employs a farmers’ market & CSA model, as well as wholesale (Heirloom tomatoes, Winter squash) to some supermarkets in the tri-state area.
