SEASON:

Camping and COVID-19 Updates: A Message from Steep Rock Association

We regret to inform you that the Steep Rock 2020 Camping season has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Anyone with camping reservations will have their deposit returned. In addition, the two outhouses are closed and locked and Tunnel Road will remain closed. All preserves and trails remain open to the public. While enjoying our trails, please be courteous and respectful of other visitors; wear a mask and follow social distancing requirements (6-ft). We have seen several bears and wildlife are actively nesting and raising young. Please leash your dogs and clean up after them for the safety of your dogs, our visitors, and the ecology of our preserves. We emphasize “Leave No Trace” practices to ensure quality experiences for everyone. If parking lots are full when you arrive, consider visiting another preserve or one of our alternate parking areas (see maps on our website). Thank you for your support. All are welcome here. Enjoy your hike!

CAMPING FEE: $35 per night / per camping site. Fee includes firewood.  To Reserve a Campsite: you must call the office at 860.868.9131 to confirm availability and reserve your campsite.

Imagine yourself sitting around a crackling fire under the brightly lit night sky listening to the Shepaug River meandering downstream. At Steep Rock, campers are surrounded by nature. Steep Rock offers tent camping at three different sites located right along the River. We invite you to come experience Steep Rock in a new way!

Steep Rock Association is not your traditional campground.  We offer three remote and rustic sites in our Steep Rock Preserve.  There is no potable water so you must bring your own.  There is an outhouse between campsites SR1 and SR2 and now one at SR3, campers must provide their own toilet paper.  It is important to be bear aware and you can follow this helpful guide from DEEP.

The Emerald Ash Borer has been discovered in Connecticut; therefore, we will provide firewood at each reserved camping site. Please Do not bring firewood into Steep Rock Preserve.

Please check availability by calling the office at (860) 868-9131 or email info@steeprockassoc.org. Once confirmed we will send you the camping application to be completed.

Please see our full list of camping rules below.

If you prefer to pay by check, please CLICK HERE to open the camping application. Once the camping application is completely filled out, print the document and send it to our office along with your camping fee.
