Imagine yourself sitting around a crackling fire under the brightly lit night sky listening to the Shepaug River meandering downstream. At Steep Rock, campers are surrounded by nature. Steep Rock offers tent camping at four different sites, three of the sites are located right along the River. We invite you to come experience Steep Rock in a new way!


Camping fees: Members $20.00 per night, per camping site. Non-members $25.00 per night, per camping site. Maximum 20 campers per site at sites SR1 and SR2. Maximum 6 campers per site at sites SR3 and SR4.

Please note: Three business days are required prior to reserving a campsite so we have time to process your application and ensure the site is in good condition for your visit.

Steep Rock Camping Map

Site SR1
No vehicle access; parking is in the main lot at the entrance to the Preserve.
Located on the west bank of the river, Site SR1 is approximately a 0.6 mile hike down the trail. This site is suitable for group camping. Amenities include a grill, campfire ring and one picnic table. An outhouse is located on the woodland path between Sites SR1 and SR2.

Site SR2
No vehicle access; parking is in the main lot at the entrance to the Preserve.
Located on the west bank of the river, Site SR2 is approximately a 0.7 mile hike down the trail. This site is suitable for group camping. Amenities include a grill, a campfire ring and two picnic tables. An outhouse is located on the woodland path between sites SR1 and SR2.

Site SR3
Vehicle access; This site is located on the east bank of the river near the end of Tunnel Road (just before the road climbs upward) and down a short path off the small parking area. It is set in the pines a short distance above the river with a beautiful view north. The only amenity is a small campfire ring. There are no restroom facilities at this site.

Site SR4
Partial vehicle access.
SR4 is located on the field up in the middle of the clam shell and can be reached from the parking area near the end of Tunnel Road, hiking approximately 0.5 mile. The only amenity is a stone grill. There are no restroom facilities at this site.
